What’s New in the Gel Venture 11?

For this version, ASICS updated the midsole. Now with AMPLIFOAM PLUS cushioning and an extra 2mm stack height, which is meant to improve comfort and shock absorption.

The rearfoot GEL cushioning works alongside AMPLIFOAM PLUS to absorb shock and make for a smooth ride on the trial. Other improvements include a more comfortable upper and stronger outsole to handle tough terrain.

Who It’s Actually For?

This shoe is good for:

  • Someone starting a walking or light running routine who doesn’t want to spend $150+ before knowing if they’ll stick with it.
  • Casual hikers who want trail grip without a technical hiking boot
  • Anyone who wants a shoe that can transition between dirt trails, sidewalks, and gym workouts.

If you are training for a trail race, we wouldn’t recommend the Gel Venture 11. Serious runners should choose higher end shoes that suit  requirements such as cushioning, durability, and stability.

Fit & Comfort

Feedback on the Venture 11’s fit is mostly positive. Some runners who have used the Venture line for years say the 11’s are not as comfortable as the 9’s or 10’s, while others describe it as an upgraded trail shoe.

The Gel Venture 11 is made for normal pronation and with neutral stability. If overpronation support is needed, look for stability running shoe lines instead.

Sizing feedback varies by retailer, with a few runners saying it can run slightly larger than other Venture models. If you’re ordering without trying them on first, sizing down half a size or checking the retailer’s specific size chart could help.

Budget Price Point

The Gel Venture 11 retails at $90 for both the men’s and women’s versions, with a waterproof version at $105. It’s often discounted — official and third-party retailers sometimes list it in the $70–$90 range. For a shoe with GEL cushioning and a genuine trail-rated outsole, that’s a fair price point when compared to $130–$160 for performance trail shoes aimed at serious runners.

Where It Falls Short

This shoe isn’t marketed as a performance product, and it can show in a few areas. Reviewers of the closely related Gel-Excite line have noticed a firmer midsole feel. The tongue construction is also basic, which is standard for shoes at this price point but worth knowing if you’ve gotten used to a more locked-in fit from high end trainers.

Some Zappos reviewers also flagged that the insole tends to wear down faster than expected — worth keeping in mind if you plan to put serious mileage with these.

Final Thoughts

The Gel-Venture 11 isn’t flashy, and it’s not trying to be. It’s a dependable, reasonably priced shoe that does the basics well. With improved cushioning and grip, this is exactly what most people need for the kind of walking or light running that they enjoy. If your workout routine is more about showing up regularly than chasing performance numbers, the Gel Venture 11 is a budget-friendly must-have.
